Legend
During the reign of King Edward III of England, lovers Robert Machim and Anna d'Arfet were said to have fled from England to France in 1346. Driven off course by a violent storm, their ship ran aground along the coast of an island that may have been Madeira. Later this legend was the basis of the naming of the city of Machico on the island, in memory of the young lovers.
The island of Madeira is at the
top of a massive shield volcano that rises about 6 km (20,000 ft) from the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, on the Tore underwater mountain range.[54] The volcano formed atop an east–west rift

Ponta de São Lourenço
Ponta de São Lourenço is one of the last nearly untouched places in Madeira. Located in the eastern part of the island, this is the place where a fantastic combination of rocks, sea and nature created one of Mother Nature’s masterpieces.
Pico Arieiro
Pico do Arieiro, with an altitude of 1818 metres, is the third highest peak on the island (and the second highest with pedestrian access). Fortunately it can be reached by car. Views are spectacular up here, and when there is very good weather, it is even possible to see Porto Santo, the neighbouring island, which is situated 30 nautical miles to the north.

PORTO MONIZ
Achadas da Cruz
Achadas da Cruz is a parish situated on the island’s extreme northwest side, in the municipality of Porto Moniz, whose main economic activities are agriculture and livestock. Handicraft products, especially wickerwork, help to increase the traditional feeling of this rural area.
PONTA DA LADEIRA
The Ponta da Ladeira viewpoint is on the north-western tip of Madeira Island, which makes it a perfect spot for watching the sunset along the west coast.
Fanal
The Fanal forest is located at the mountain plateau Paul da Serra in the north-west part of Madeira around 10 km east of the town Ribeira Da Janela
Every tree in Fanal is a piece of art
All the trees at Fanal are crooked, wind-blown and have their very own personality. I brought home hundreds of photos – take a look at my best ones below.
The Cristo Rei monument is a sacred statue of Jesus Christ on Ponta do Garajau, a headland between Caniço and Funchal on the south coast of Madeira Island. This viewpoint offers panoramic views on the Atlantic Ocean, Funchal Bay and Desertas Islands
